The new mine shaft


At the beginning of the 18th century, this new shaft (Neuer Schacht) was build in the connexion with the gallery below, the so-called “Lange Strecke”. The transport of the ore to the daylight was much easier with him. On the representation you can see a “Haspel” with a bucket at the end of the rope with which the ore or the rock was pulled up. Over the ladders the miners climbed down in the depth.


The shafts served not only the material transport and the access to the galleries. About them the aerial exchange occurred. They were an essential component of the air conditions in the subterranean galleries.
